ARA Jurby Race Report

Curtin falls on Andreas Racing Association last Race Meeting of 2001 We were extremely lucky with the weather today. When we arrived at Jurby at 09.00 this morning we were greeted by driving rain. But by the time practice got under way the sky's had cleared to every bodies suprize.

The meeting got under way with two events for the three wheel brigade and in these events Dave Molyneux took victory with his new counter weight Chris (wedgie) Wedgewood in the Chair. Nickie Crow and Darren Hope finished a close second in the first with the Kelly Bros. Neil and Brian in third.

In the second race Moly was again the victor but this time the Kelly Bros. came home second with Alan Langton and Jamie Scarffe a fine third.

Their was a short break before the two Hour Endurance Race got under way. From the off it was Juan Kennish whom lead for the first 20 mins with Nigel Beattie in hot pursuit followed by Neil Muirhead. Twenty Mins into the Race we lost one of the front runners when Neil Muirhead dropped his Yamaha R6 coming out onto the back straight this brought out a full course yellow for a few laps while they cleared the circuit. The closest of the classes seemed to be the 400,s with the first three covered by less than one second after the first 15mins with Dave Mygdal leading Scott Shimmin with Dave Corlett giving chase.

The second first full course Yellow came out Early in the second 1/2 hour when Paul Corrin lost the front end of his Honda 600 coming out of Nanns. Paul was taken to Hospital for a check up. As we went into the second hour the weather seemed to be holding well with no Rain so far. The first half of the second hour was uneventful with no incidents taking place.

The Time keepers were that busy it was impossible to get placings till the end of the event. A lot of riders seemed to misjudge their fuel as nearing the end of the event Peter Corfield had run dry and had to push in to finish as did Chris Hayes, James Jackson and Graham Burden. With about five mins to go the Heavens opened and down came the Rain, We were very lucky that the weather had held up so well I was glad to see the chequered flag.

A good days racing was had by all who took part and finished as You can see from the results below. I would like to say a big thank you to the organisers, Marshals, Staff and Competitors both from on the Island and the Visiting teams who took part. Here's looking forward to next Years Events and hopefully the TT, MGP and Southern 100 races going ahead next Year.
