RE: ROBERT DUNLOP - Bucknall Bends - 16-05-2008

“those who risk nothing , do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothing”
We all know these words and where they came from. How apt they are.
My thoughts go to the Dunlop family and all who knew him.

RE: ROBERT DUNLOP - Hilary M - 16-05-2008

I am so sorry. The only thing we can all believe is that Robert loved what he did, that is why he continued after his TT accident. My thoughts are with all the family and everyone present at the NW200

RE: ROBERT DUNLOP - The Bag - 16-05-2008

A loss of an extremely brave and determined racer. To come back from so many 'big' accidents and ride in the way he did, still at the top, makes Robert a vey special person indeed. A big loss. Sympathies and thoughts to the Dunlop family.

RE: ROBERT DUNLOP - pat slinn - 16-05-2008

It is with great sadness that I learn of the death of Robert Dulop.
Robert was a good friend of the TT Race Mission, not only did he contribute financialy to the "Mission" but he encouraged us with our work at the TT. Robert took part in the annual Grandstand service on a number of occasions, even when he was under a lot of pressure to prepare his, or other peoples bikes. He, as with Joey always found time to visit the Mission tent during the TT, just for a chat or a drink.

Robert will be sadly missed, he was a Gentleman, an ambassador for our sport of motor cycle racing, and just a "good all round Guy", my condolances to your family

"He will wipe every tear fom their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

Revelation : Chapter 21 : verse 4.

ROBERT REST IN PEACE.

RE: ROBERT DUNLOP - T-M - 16-05-2008

Yes very sad.

I believe that several events at the NW200 have been cancelled as a 'mark of respect'. I'm not sure that this is what Robert would have wanted. The time for mourning is not at the event but later. We constantly justify our sport by saying 'they know the risks' and if a lesser name suffers the same fate it is quickly put to the back of the mind, which is much more sad in my opinion. As a nation we seem to be erring towards massive outpourings of grief when people we probably never knew pass away. We are losing sight of the fact that in this case a lot of people have gone to attend an enjoyable event and ended up at a wake.

I'm not trying to say that this is'nt a sad occasion and I have great sympathy for all family and friends but we must put everything into perspective and not ruin the event for everyone. As I said, I'm sure that is the last thing this great rider who loved this event would want.

RE: ROBERT DUNLOP - Arthur Lawn - 16-05-2008

T-M there is such a thing as a mark of respect and I do not think firework displays or heavy rock music are appropiate in the circumstances or relevent to the event.
This has been a tragic month for Irish Road Racing and I hope that the starting grid in the sky is oversubscribed and no further entries can be accepted.
Rest in Peace Robert under the chequered flag

RE: ROBERT DUNLOP - Michael - 17-05-2008
