"New regulastions by the ACU for 2011--------" Why ? Is this the Porker acting the t**t for one last time before he was forced to retire?

RE: PUBLIC CONSULTATION: Proposed Road Closing Schedule: MGP 2011 - an old man returns - 03-02-2011

I think that the ACU change is that the Newcommers race cannot be run at the same time as A N other race, therefor must run on its own. The proposal is to run a three lap newcommers race on the Saturday and a one lap practice for the 'other' riders after it.

The IOM consultation relates to an application to close the roads one hour earlier on the Saturday to enable this to take place (race and practice before daylight is lost).

Unfortunately the consultation doesnt end until the end of February and the regulations/entry forms cannot be completed, printed and available until after that.

Just one hour extra, that's all it is! Anyway, didn't there used to be racing on the Sat evening?

Strange, dont you think, that the Newcomers race has been run since 1978 and its only now, 33 years later that "The ACU" have decided that a change is needed and its even stranger that it just happens to coincide with The Porkers demise as Chairman of everything ACU. Whats that just gone past my window, wow, its a flying Porker!!!!!

RE: PUBLIC CONSULTATION: Proposed Road Closing Schedule: MGP 2011 - an old man returns - 07-02-2011

The decision has been made with thoughts on the sad events of 2010.

RE: PUBLIC CONSULTATION: Proposed Road Closing Schedule: MGP 2011 - David Linsdell - 07-02-2011

For obvious reasons I agree with this ruling, but we should also remember that it's only in recent years with the falling number of mgp newcomers that the race has actuall run with another class!

Would this also be the reasoning behind the "safety feature" of reducing the grid to 90 and starting riders off singly instead of in pairs ?

The question first listed was answered and a poignant answer from David.

Maybe it would be better to start a different thread to vent your opinions against the ACU Ammo.

There did Jo. The Saturday evening used to be the Classic race (before there were separate SCL and J/LCL races). It was noticeable that the classic boys then used to love it as they could practice all week, race on the Saturday then jump on the ferry to be home for the weekend. Putting the races in the week gave no more riding but an extra week's time and expenses away from home, though it has enabled 2 classic races rather than one for those with the machinery. Maybe a thought should the classic entries field drop still further and the MMCC think of combining them into a single race.

However, this proposal could be OK if done right. Most people have qualified by the last Saturday of Practice Week and not many will be looking to do more than 1 lap in any case. It is a good idea in my view to separate the Newcomers race from any other class, since they are normally long on horsepower and short on course knowledge. The only thing I wouldn't like to see is the Saturday practice being lost altogether - the amount of practice is dangerously low already, given the amount already lost and the tightening of qualifying times. At some point the ACU and MMCC will need to realise that asking riders to race on the world's most hazardous course with decreasing amounts of practice could be leaving them open to litigation on health & safety grounds.

RE: PUBLIC CONSULTATION: Proposed Road Closing Schedule: MGP 2011 - sticky - 07-04-2011

According to the MGP website time has been allocated for all classes to get one lap of practice after the newcomers race:

Saturday 27 Aug
1910-1920 Senior, Junior, SuperTwin (No Newcomers)
1930-1940 Classic, C/Superbike, Junior P/Classic, Lightweight (No Newcomers A & B)

RE: PUBLIC CONSULTATION: Proposed Road Closing Schedule: MGP 2011 - chris - 07-04-2011

I think the Newcomers Race is only going to be 3 laps, it used to be 4 laps, so that will give a bit of 'extra' time for the practice lap.
