Motorcycle bookings for TT 2012 have seen a 10 per cent rise on the same time last year according to the latest ferry passenger figures released.

The news has been welcomed by the Department of Economic Development.

Increased ferry bookings are also reflected in the sale of seats in the main Glencrutchery Road grandstand with the department anticipating all seats being sold by Christmas. This would be the first time this has happened in the previous calendar year.

Five extra grandstand sites around the island have been proposed to help accommodate the extra demand.

A survey carried out in 2009 by the Manx treasury estimated every TT visitor contributed £620 to the Isle of Man’s economy.

Last week saw the DVD release of the film TT3D: Closer to the Edge. When it was released in the cinema in April, it spent weeks in the top ten and was one of the most successful box office documentaries of all time. It could boost interest in the TT.

Every year its the same statement, personally I think its all BS.

Lets try this for an answer.

How many visitors came to the TT in the following years

1965
1970
1975
1980
1985
1990
1995
2000

I can remember in the late 60s early 70s when there was no parking spaces on Douglas Prom as well as Ramsey and Peel. All the Many, many vantage points arround the track full to capacity. Now we have less vantage points and Ive not seen one full for the past few years.

During the 80's the bikes on the front at Douglas were lined up on both sides of the road, from about the tram terminal right up to the sea terminal. I spent many a evening just walking along on both sides of the road, just admiring the bikes. That has not happened for at least 10..15.. years. ?
It was the same in Ramsey, Port St Mary, Port Erin, and Castletown etc. I dont care what the Sea Packet people say or the anybody else, there are not as many bikes at the TT as there used to be.

I was last there in 2010 and you re right I was shocked at how few bikes on the front , I dont think people are prepared to book a year early to get to the TT ,there s no accommodation and no ferries its a poor effort
Anyway I ll be back for 2012 !!
