Foreign Riders in the TT - ian huntly - 06-04-2012

Can anyone help me to clarify a point please.

The TT used to attract a lot of riders from the Continent and further afield...The ones I was involved with in the past were given appearance money and a perk or two to attract them.

What do they qualify for now ? I have read the regs over and over and they seem to give the visitors a lot less (if anything) than only a few years ago.

We need the International involvement, not just majoring on UK and other Islands of the local group.....There are some good foriegn riders out there who would love to participate. What's the crack ??

RE: Foreign Riders in the TT - FCM - 06-04-2012

All depends on who's club your in.

The costs in getting to the TT from Europe for the top teams is bloody expensive, there is also problems with their sponsors not wanting the riders to compete on the Island, some countries have licence restrictions that prevent riders from competing at the TT.

Personally I don't think that the powers to be are prepared to help when approached

They don't ride in the BSB....

You beat me to that by a short head, Sticky.

TT "Organisers" don't want foreigners, they want "BSB on Roads".

The North-West 200 has gone the same way.

It will take just one BSB hotshot, who's real roadracing experience is minimal (if indeed any!), to apply Donington/Brands/Croft/Snet tactics in the wrong place at the wrong time and meet some of the roadside furniture, for the curtain to come down on the whole circus.

Maybe that's what they want??

I fear for Mr Brookes

They also want to ruin the MGP with their silly ideas.
See you at the friendly MGP with 9 european riders and the 56+ newcomers.

I think that they want the MGP to cover some of the costs paid out at the TT.

And what about the Mountain Course licence, with 6 likewise events you have to race to get one.
Does Karl Harris has ever raced a "Road Race" in the last 12 months??

Lots of European Riders with good quality who want to race the TT but it would cost them the same as a whole racing season at their home turf.

Don't forget, the ACU in their wisdom (or stupidity) define any tarmac race (e.g. Brands, Croft, Snetterton etc) as a "road race".

What does that tell you about their thinking??

And we seen the shambles at Brands yesterday, man hanging out of the back of a van with a watering can trying to clean the road. Safety for some no longer a priority

Even that Kart track up north near Wigan, who's name Ive completely forgotten, where you'll be lucky to get above 5th gear, counts as a "road race" for the purpose of the Curse Licence !!!

RE: Foreign Riders in the TT - Manx Mist - 11-04-2012

3 Sisters Ammo, and you'll be lucky to hook 4th for long there.
