Weather - Anonymous - 20-05-2003

Well it's November over here on the mainland.
I presume it's no better on the Island?
I'm glad I'm not on the ferry today, but will it get any better by the weekend?

Re: Weather - Anonymous - 20-05-2003

We had golf-ball sized raindrops down here in Reading today !!!

We hope that the "pond" will be smooth cos on a bad day it is the worst patch of sea in the world !!!

Re: Weather - Anonymous - 20-05-2003

If the weather is bad for your crossing, it's knowing where to sit on the boat.

However I'm not inclined to share this info lest I can't get the correct seat!!

Just 8 days until I leave.

Roll on TT 2003

Big D.

This time next week I will be sipping a cool drink in the paddock at Billown with the urbane Larry Devlin and Co.
A fortnight tonight I will be sloshing it doon with you all in the Hilton!
Edgar Jessop hopes to join us....

Re: Weather - Anonymous - 21-05-2003

I hope we dont get a crossing like last year!
One of the top 3 of worse crossings since 1967!
We were on the Ben-My-Chree from Heysham on
the midnight crossing, Friday before practice
week.
I heard that it was something like force 9 during the trip!
Should have realised we were in for a rough time cos of the look of the crew and the familar odour about the place!
It was a case of finding some where to lie and hanging on!
I decided the floor was the best option but fell off that a couple of times...
The most dramatic moment was when the ship lifted way up and crashed back down again. At this point, the door to the galley (kitchens to you!)
opened and out flew a whole bunch of crockery.
All this time, my car, trailer and 2 bikes were all out on deck in the salt water.
We eventually landed and gratefully disembarked....
The next day, we heard that Ben-My-Chree was withdrawn from service for urgent repairs!
It were broke!

The other 2 in the top 3?
Well I cant pin down the years exactly but
one was on the old Ben-My-Chree which was grim.
The other was on the King Ory which was in beautiful sunshine but force 9 again!
This time, I was sat out on the deck!!
I will nevere forget that moment when...

....queeze warning...

...a guy ran across the deck to be sick over the side, just as a wind propelled wave came and he "got his own back!"
So too did the poor people sat in the stern seats!
I wont describe the following scene....

Why do we do it?

Well, we all know the answer to that one, dont we!

2 days to go!
Have a good one everybody.

Mike

I was on the same crossing last year and yes it was force 8+ passengers were a little bit PALE and we had to wait 12 hrs before that at Heysham docks after being transfered from L'pool.
