Chief Minister says Festival of Motorcycling saved event
As the Festival of Motorcycling gets under way, the Chief Minister says hard work over the last three years has saved the Manx Grand Prix from extinction.
Allan Bell says making the MGP part of the festival alongside new and relaunched events has given it a new lease of life.
And he says the evidence suggests it's going from strength to strength:

The self proclaimed saviour of the TT will now sadly boast the same about the MGP, just gate crashers they are.

The DED (and Mr Philips himself) were claiming 10% per annum increases in attendance years before the Classic TT kicked off. An admirable figure appearing to suggest that the event was doing perfectly well without their input. 70+ newcomers this year - could be a future TT winner in amongst them. Maybe a good time to remember after this year's TT that Michael Dunlop and Ian Hutchinson are ex-MGP riders (among, of course, many other stellar names).

Precisely, "they" are now having to salvage some credibility having tried so shamefully to assassinate the MGP at the end of 2012.
The event was treated with utter disdain by those who wanted "The Festival" to take over, and for the MGP to simply lie down and die. So glad to see increased entries for the MGP
