Can someone tell me who the rider is on the front of the ACU raceguide 1982?

Re: picture on front TT guide 1982 - Anonymous - 27-11-2003

Well the bike is a Honda Britain Formula 1 entry carrying No 3 with the name Joey Dunlop on the fairing but it definately does not look like Joey on the bike.

The programme caption states it is Joey in the 1980 Classic race, but No 3 in that race was Graham Crosby on a Heron Suzuki. Also the plates on the bike are red and they woukd have been white for the Classic. Also Joey carried the No 3 in 1980 Classic but he is also shown as starting on a 750 Yamaha and winning on a 750 Yamaha not a Honda.

Interestingly No 3 is not shown as a Finisher, retirement or none starter in the 1980 Formula 1 results. But while I have the Programme I don't have the race card to see if there was an entry for No 3. ELWYB, LARRY you must have one?

Never noticed the face through the visor before and I don't recognise it.

Interestingly I have several photographs of myself carrying no 63, Yellow plates on a TZ 350 Maxton taken at Laurel Bank and talking to T.M Kipper Killip taking my helmet of at Parliament square when I must have retired. It was a bike I had between 77 and 80 but I cannot find an entry or retirement for me in any Senior's with the number 63. All my entries for 77. 79.

The nearest I came to it was Steve Murray shown as entered and retired on No 63 350 Maxton Yamaha in the 1980 Senior when I did not enter the Senior and I can only assume I took his entry over.

So much for the accuracy of the ACU results.

to tom loughridge,i think you are looking at the wrong guide/picture,it is the front cover of the race guide not the programe, the bike is number 8 and looks like a 250 or 350 Yamaha.where is the picture taken? parliment square?

Look at the HELMET Tom...............

Re: picture on front TT guide 1982 - Anonymous - 27-11-2003

Yeah okay I admit it I'm getting old. but the picture and caption on the programme are wrong the bike is carrying Formula 1 plates not Classic and the ACU results indicate there was no starter on Number 3 in the 1980 F1.

Not Charlie then......................

Re: picture on front TT guide 1982 - Anonymous - 28-11-2003

Don't think its Charle the Helmet is wrong He always had his own design with C.W.on his Kangol sponsored helmet when Charlie Williams rode for me in the 70s he always wore glasses for racing.

When you said look at the helmet you were mistaken Joey always wore Arai not Kangol helmets, have not got a clue who it is but it is not Joey with a Kangol helmet.
