Sky mobile - dommyman - 04-06-2019

Can anybody tell me if they have used a Sky mobile phone on the Island as I believe there is no Sky coverage. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

All mobiles should work here, as long as there is a roaming agreement in place, the service will be provided by local mobile networks Sure or Manx Telecom, and then cross charged to Sky, we don't have any of the UK networks here.

If it helps (and it probably doesn't) Sky Go worked on the Island through the local network. I'm on EE at home.

Get a Manx PAYG card or it will cost you a fortune otherwise.

That used to be the case, but a lot of the UK providers now have agreements in place whereby you get a amount of inclusive calls which are classed as 'local' and included in any monthly bundle.

Here is the Manx Telecom Advice Page on "Roaming" when visiting the Isle of Man, using a UK based (or other country) based mobile.

Really, I wasn't aware of that, neither, do I see Sky being part of that agreement. I remember many years ago, before I learnt, having a £350 bill generated in a 10 day period on the IoM.

Thank you for all the information and help everybody, I think a Manx sim card looks the best option to avoid a large bill.

RE: Sky mobile - HammerHead - 07-06-2019

I'd be surprised if any UK phone operators didn't allow IoM roaming. When I've previously visited I've been on Vodafone and paid £2 per day to use my monthly allowances "abroad". This year I am with EE and a quick call to them before leaving home confirmed I could use my minutes and data freely in the IoM as I would at home - indeed the person I spoke with gifted me an extra 2GB of data to use while on the Island.

Thanks Hammerhead, but I don't think Sky are as accommodating as EE
