The fittest rider in this year's MGP? - David Griffiths - 13-08-2006

I don't know who's going to win the races this year, but I think I can say with some degree of confidence that my better half Gail will be amongst the fittest competitors in the meeting after some of her recent running performances.

Over the past week she has recorded times of 11.28 for 3000 metres and 19.51 for 5000 metres (a time which ranks her in the top 100 in the UK), and this morning she recorded a quite amazing 93.34 in her very first attempt at a Half Marathon. She also recorded 42.20 for 10000 metres earlier in the summer, a time she should be able to take a fair chunk out of next time she races over that distance. These performances give her every chance of being selected for the Isle of Man's Athletics Team in next year's Island Games to be held in Rhodes.

Not bad for someone who only started doing a bit of jogging to keep fit for the bike racing about 3 years ago, and who only really started training seriously a few months ago! (Can any MGP competitors beat any of the above times, by the way?)

Takes me about 19 minutes for 2.5 miles.

Mind you I'm twice the weight of Gail and I've only be training for 4 weeks.

Having said that I am fitter and lighter than I've been for at least 3 years

Fantastic dedication by both of you. Hopefully someone will takes pics with captions so we can recognise you, Cargo.

I know I'm Gail's mum,but I am very proud of her acheivements.I really don't know how she finds time to fit all her sporting activities in.They are calling he "Little Miss Dynamite" on the Manx Harriers web site.Let's hope she doesn't have to use her fitness to push in from Hillberry!

Elle is pretty fit, but I don't think we are on the same wavelength are we?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there quite a lot of publicity about Elle becoming engaged to be married at last year's MGP?Available?????

Quite right Hilary she is engaged to irish road racer Adrian Ellwood, and Elle also runs marathons, fell races and does a bit of mountain biking, so I suppose she is quite fit Fitz. lol
