Bonhams Sale 21 Oct - ian huntly - 12-10-2007

- larryd - 12-10-2007

Also in the auction will be the TT Riders Association archive of books, programmes, results books, "TT Specials" from 1936, and more.

The TTRA Committee having decided that as a charitable organisation it had no longer any need for an archive and an Archivist, it instructed me some months ago to box up this vast amount of written and published history and despatch it to Bonham's.

At least it gave me the opportunity to bring my own library/archive down from my loft and return it to its own shelves . . . . . . . . .

Pity, though, that the facility to have research done on behalf of members and non-members no longer exists . . . . . . . . . .

Mind you, if anyone needs historical queries answered, on early TTs or other international road races, I'll do my best off my own bat :!:

sad - ian huntly - 12-10-2007

It really is sad that before long we will have fewer and fewer hard records of our favourite races...However you, Nick and I will still have memories and real-time information in our heads and are still obviously willing to impart such info. But we still need all the entry and similar info.

It does make it more sensible to have a real permanent museum on the Island before all us oldies slip this mortal coil...

Just viewed the catalogue, most Vincents I have seen in one sale for a long while although this may drive the prices down a wee bit.
Regarding the Honda Dream, although a nicely engineered machine they allways strike me as being far off a CR110 Replica as the engine/gearbox construction differs somewhat.Although they gave the max revs of the Cr110 as 13500 they needed to be reved much higher than this if you wanted to win anything and it was not uncommon to see the needle stuck on 16000rpm without any adverse effect on the engine. It was one of the most reliable bikes I ever raced although I modified the drive side bearing on mine as the original caused crankshaft failure.

Forget it, all you lot, that wee Honda is MINE... I'm going to use it to go to Shoprite, and park it on the mantlepiece.
