THE BRITISH MOTORCYCLE RACING CLUB - thewitch - 03-08-2008

The British Motorcycle Racing Club is proposing a unique opportunity for all racing enthusiasts to attend an historic occasion at Brands Hatch next spring.
Provisional plans for the 2009 British Motorcycle Racing Club’s Centennial meeting are now under way. The weekend of 17-18-19 April 2009 corresponds with the very first BMCRC meeting, which took place at the Brooklands circuit in Surrey on the 18th April 1909.

The Brands Hatch Indy circuit has been booked for the three days and it’s hoped that as many club members as can be mustered will become involved. The schedule will be for club championship racing amalgamated with nostalgia, including Historic/Classic races, parades and special events. It’s hoped that as many former Bemsee riders and past masters will join us.

Special event arrangements with the Brooklands Museum and the Sammy Miller Museum are on going to create a tented village displaying bikes down the ages. Discussions with other clubs are continuing including the VMCC, Morgan and Forgotten Club.

It is hoped the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club will attend with some selected races depicting the Pre and Post Classic period. Races for Grand Prix machines from the fifties and sixties will hopefully occur through the Lansdowne Classic series.

It is thought that riders involved with the BMCRC Yamaha Past Masters Championship will be able to re-enact some of the Bemsee 250cc and 350cc Production championships of the eighties. They will have a unique opportunity to showcase their machines from the post classic period and arrange something very special.
The BMCRC’s very successful Formula 400cc Championship regularly has on display numerous machines made during the nineties. The championship sponsor John Sanders, from the Hong Kong software company EDIasia, has already pledged a substantial prize fund for all F400 activities connected with the Centennial event.

The British Motorcycle Racing Club would also be happy to discuss with any party considering part or whole sponsorship arrangements of this Centennial event.

It is also the intention of Bemsee to encourage as many individual paraders on pre and post war machines as possible to attend. A parade course is planned as a separate attraction in the paddock with races taking place at the same time on the circuit. Other off track attractions are currently being discussed with MSV. Arrangements for special commemorative medals, trophies and memorabilia are also being organised.

Track activities for riders with machines made in the post Second World War period is likely to be busy. These riders and individual competitors wanting to parade or race pre and post First World War machines should register their intent with Terry Howe at photos@terryhowe.fsnet.co.uk in the first instance so programming issues can be dealt with as early as possible. Official applications for supplementary regulations and entry forms etc will be dealt with through staff at the Romford office in the New Year.

The British Motorcycle Racing Club has already contacted a number of organisations and clubs. Through this press release Bemsee would like to hear from those already contacted or any other party who would like to be involved in this momentous event.

BMCRC Centennial mini get-togethers and meetings will occur during the rest of the season. Ideas and thoughts are welcome but during the club’s busy summer and autumn racing period can they be forwarded to Terry Howe, photos@terryhowe.fsnet.co.uk, and they can be discussed at the next meeting.

Members interested in being involved in organisation should also contact Mike Dommett at the office on 01708 720305 or mikedommett@hotmail.com
