The fastest pushrod lap? - Bill Snelling - 18-06-2010

Can anyone think of a faster Mountain Course lap by a pushrod-engined machine than Alex George's 107.34 mph on a Triumph triple in 1978 Formula 1?
He was faster than Peter Williams in 1973.

At a guess I'd say the fastest 500 pushrod single would be an Aermachi - perhaps Bill Swallow... A 500 british pushrod has never done 100mph - dad did 99.6mph fron a standing start last year on his Seeley Enfield, before breaking the crank pin. He's coming back to try and crack the 100 this year..

I don't have time to check my facts at the moment, but did'nt Ashley Law do around 107 in 2002'ish on a big Guzzi ?.

OK, so I looked it up... and in the 2006 MGP, finishing 3rd behind that Paton was Derek Whalley on an Aermacchi 476, averaged 103.433 mph. I could not find what his fastest lap was... but darn fast indeed..!!!

Lads... we got work to do..! 7 weeks until first practice...

Cheers..!!

Ok Guys, so whats the fastest lap by a British 500cc push rod single... I think its between the late Paul Dobbs and Steve Linsdell 98 + mph both in practice i think.... will have to try a little harder this year or ride a whole lot smoother.... smooth = speed.....around the mountain course.....Ago...

Ago, Steve did 99.655 from a standing start in the senior classic race last year, on his 500 Enfield Seeley Bullet, he was so dissapointed not to hit the 100 mph.

RE: The fastest pushrod lap? - Gstarron - 23-06-2010

OK, Dobbs on the BSA Gold Star hit 99 plus several times in practice sessions, but sadly never got the Ton nor did he ever complete one race lap on that bike...(sad)... And I have it on good inside info that the bike he was to race this year got some good engine improvments... as such I was looking forward to see him put in that TON lap... and having my BSA "chase" him... sadly tis not to be... But I guess WE will have to do it this year...

OH and if you go back far enough, you will find that John Cronshaw did a 94 plus MPH race lap on his Goldie some years ago... FYI, I heard the Cronshaw had a crash last weekend, but is up and on crutches already...

Here I am, just counting the days.... soon it will be MGP time..!! Anyone wanting anything from the states, just holler... if I can bring it, I will.... just don't ask for a Cali Beach Gal... heh... And I know no one wants our beer... (Can't wait to have my first Bushy's..)...

Cheers..!!

Ron

We don't want your chocolate either, Ron!

Looking forward to meeting you at scrutineering!

Hi Jo... Funneee.... well I don't want your blood sausage either... but... I bet I get my fill of brecky with thick toast... and of course several take away's in the evening... However seeing all the people.. (aside from the racing), is what makes this trip worth while..!! My bike will be sporting fresh paint on the fairing, and a nice clean bike... I guess I better check my spokes again, just to be sure..!!

Cheers..!!

Ron

Don't worry, Ron, checking your spokes is one of my jobs!! Tee hee!
