Left to Right - Lee Morris, John McGuinness & Neil Morris at Isle of Man TT 2000.

Lee Morris passed away on 3rd November 2012 in Thailand of complications following his recent battle with pneumonia.

Lee and his brother Neil took over the reins of the Chrysalis Racing team following the tragic deaths of their parents David and Alison in 1999.

David died while racing at Croft in September 1999, shortly after securing that year’s British Supermono championship. Alison passed away just six days later from a suspected deep vein thrombosis.

In 2000, the Brothers celebrated their parent’s memories perfectly by steering the Chrysalis team to emotional first and second places in the Isle of Man Singles TT with John McGuinness and Jason Griffiths. Father David had made that race his own in previous years with three consecutive TT wins in the class on the Island.

Both boys ran the Chrysalis team in a number of classes, bringing out the Chrysalis AMDM single-cylinder machines for races at Aberdare Park in the UK and Spa Francorchamps and Assen for the European Supermono Championship. Riders of the calibre of Jason Griffiths, Gus Scott and Adrian Clarke raced the big single, chalking up some strong results and podium finishes along the way.

The Chrysalis team moved to the British Superstock championship for 2001 taking a podium position with rider Howard Whitby and 10th overall. More success came in 2002 with rider Kieran Murphy who notched numerous podiums before taking fourth place overall in the class on the Chrysalis Suzuki GSX-R1000 K1.

During the team’s final year of 2003 John McGuinness raced the Chrysalis Honda CBR600RR until a lack of sponsorship saw the team disband after just four rounds, despite a best finish of sixth at Snetterton.

During the team’s four years under Lee’s management, they also visited the Macau Grand Prix where Jason Griffiths finished 9th on the big Suzuki as well as competing at the Ulster Grand Prix.

Following the break-up of the team, Lee moved to Thailand around five years ago, making a name for himself on the pool circuit in Bangkok, often taking some big pro scalps in the many tournaments he played.

Lee fell in love with the culture and the people in Thailand and last year he and his wife celebrated the birth of their daughter Olive.

Sadly, Lee fell ill a couple of months ago and suffered a sudden relapse, passing away in hospital with his wife and two children by his side.

Lee will be fondly remembered by many in the UK racing paddock and will be much missed by his family and friends all over the World, particularly his younger brother Neil and of course his wife and two children.
