GP Originals Report on 2020 activities

Coronavirus and our 2020 season

The racing world, along with the rest of the globe, has been hit by something extraordinary this year. Every Championship, Club and Series has been stopped in its tracks and GP Originals is no exception.

2020 was set to be another bumper season with an even bigger prize fund and an incredible calendar taking in the best UK circuits.

In these unprecedented times, our hosts are challenged to plan for race meetings with reduced numbers of people and implement social distancing measures. Marshalls, understandably, have new concerns about maintaining safety for themselves as well as their competitors. The ACU has indicated there will be no overnight camping. How will this pan out?

The remaining two events

Brands Hatch GP is Bemsee’s biggest event and, if it goes ahead at all, will be their first meeting under the new rules. It is unlikely there will be room for a guest class for this season – if we hear otherwise we will let you know, of course.

Due to the uncertainty of the lockdown, the British Superbikes at Cadwell event remains uncertain. The pressures will be huge to deliver such a premium televised event under these restrictions. BSB will not be able to support the GP Originals guest class for this year’s event – we will work as hard as possible with BSB to secure support for 2021.

We wish Bemsee and BSB every success with their 2020 plans and thank them sincerely for their support of GP Originals.

What happens now?

We have everything in place and can start afresh in 2021. The prize fund is in the bank awaiting the winners, the early entry rewards are here, boxed and waiting, the bubbly is safely stored ready to be popped in celebration. We will offer a discounted membership for those that joined this year.
