Hi All
I’d like to introduce myself: John McKeown from Crosby Liverpool. I signed up to the forum this morning as I’ll be attending not only my first TT but also my first visit to the Island next May. I can’t believe that it’s taken me 62 years to travel 80 miles to a place that I’ve longed to visit.

Well that’s another couple of goals ticked off my bucket listIcon_biggrin. I’m crossing with my bike on the 29 May from Heysham “Liverpool fully booked” returning to Liverpool 6 June. One of my sons will be joining me for the week-end. I’ve been looking at campsites in Douglas and a friend has recommended St Georges AFC. Does anyone know of this site and if so would they recommend it? I’ve opted for camping as I’ll be on my “Billy” for a lot of the time and thought that there would be a better camaraderie than you’d find in a B&B.

A little bit about me: served 22years in the Army (RAOC Vehicle Specialist) leaving in 1995 as a WO2 and then was employed as a Prison Custody Officer. I now enjoy an active retirement getting in as much biking as I can without upsetting Her-in-Doors too much. I passed my bike test in 1966 on a 49cc Raleigh moped and have ridden all shapes and sizes since I’m currently down to 2 roadworthy bikes a 1982 Honda CX500 Eurosport and 2010 Honda Deauville NT 700 the NT suites my rickety large frame as it’s an easy to handle mid range tourer which ticks all the boxes for me.

Hope to see some of you guys on the road

Cheers John Mac

RE: Newbie
Welcome onboard John and I hope that a few of the regulars will make contact and enlighten you as to the "magic" of the Isle of Man and the TT itself.

Meanwhile, please look around the site and avail yourself of some of the general information available (although some may be a wee bit out of date, and I shall have to update it) on the Visitor Information pages

Fell free to post any questions you may have and hopefully we can answer them for you.

Malcolm.

Nice one John, you have plenty of time to plan your trip.

There's plenty of TT nerds on here who will answer any questions you have.

Here's some info on camp sites on the Isle.

Welcome John, I started following the TT (and bike racing in general) in 1955 although my first visit to the IOM was 2010. Now I Marshal at both TT and MGP each year and couldn't believe it had taken me so long to get there. I'm sure you'll love it, I find it's like nothing else and will also be looking at the Billown and Jurby meetings so I can really get my bike fix topped up. Paul
