TRIBUTE NIGHT FOR FALLEN RACE STAR

A tribute night will be held for Omagh road racer Adrian McFarland, who tragically lost his life following a crash in the Czech Republic in August.

The event has been organised by Team Hardship Racing and will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Dundalk in Co Louth on Saturday, March 3.

McFarland was one of the country’s leading road racers for many years and had scaled down his racing exploits here when tragedy struck at the Terlicko road races in the Czech Republic four months ago.

The 41-year-old was highly regarded by fellow competitors and his death sent shockwaves through the racing paddock.

Two days later, motorcycling in Northern Ireland suffered a second blow with the news that up and coming young star Wayne Hamilton had been killed at the Manx Grand Prix.

The 20-year-old, from Annaghmore in Portadown, was tipped for big things after he beat class specialist Ryan Farquhar in the Supertwins 650 race at the Dundrod 150 in August and went on to win the Manx Newcomers race before he was involved in fatal accident in the Junior race two days later on the Mountain Course.

In March, the tribute evening for McFarland will include a chat show featuring top road racers, plus an auction of racing memorabilia and a raffle for some special prizes.

Entertainment on the night will be provided by DJ Kevin Clarke.

Doors open at 8pm and admission is 10 euros.

The Crown Plaza Hotel is offering special rates on rooms for anyone attending the event.
