Donald in Kirkistown showdown

Cameron Donald is back in Northern Ireland after spending the winter in his homeland in Australia and the Wilson Craig Honda ace is gearing up for a big weekend of Easter action.

Donald will be on the grid at Bishopscourt and Kirkistown, with the double Isle of Man TT winner defending his Enkalon Trophy title at the Irish Superbike meeting at Bishopscourt in Co Down on Easter Saturday before rounding off a busy weekend on the at the Belfast and District Motor Club’s ISB event at Kirkistown.

Joining Donald will be Ulster road racing star Ryan Farquhar, plus Brian McCormack, David Haire, Matthew Percy, Nico Mawhinney and Denver Robb.

Donald’s team-mate, William Dunlop, will ride Craig’s Honda machines at Bishopscourt on Friday and Saturday but the 26-year-old will miss the Easter Monday meeting at Kirkistown as he takes part in the opening round of the 125GP British Championship at Brands Hatch in Kent.

Dunlop recently secured a new sponsor, David Wishart of car engine tuning and mapping specialists Torquetronix of Kells, which will enable him to contest the full 125cc championship on a Honda supplied by Mark Keen.

The Easter Monday race at Kirkistown is being backed by Ards Borough Council and Ards Tourism, with the Mayor’s Trophy up for grabs to the winner of the second Superbike race.

Aussie Donald, who is also part of the Honda TT Legends Endurance World Championship team in 2012, was in sensational form at the traditional Easter Irish short circuit races a year ago, when he swept the boards on Craig’s 1000cc Fireblade.

Donald will take all the beating in the feature class once again and should also prove a tough nut to crack in the Supersport races, when his rivals include Carl Phillips, Jamie Patterson, Alistair Kirk, Declan Hoey, Timothy and Stuart Elwood.

Reigning multiple Irish champion Kirk Jamison has been ruled out after suffering three broken vertebrae in a heavy crash in the Ken Redfern Trophy race at Croft on Sunday.

Jamison, who had a brace fitted on Tuesday, faces at least four months on the sidelines.
