The Manx Motor Cycle Club is very concerned at inaccurate statements made on Manx Radio by a representative of KPMG on Wednesday 2 May 2012.

In particular visitors over the Manx Grand Prix Festival period have INCREASED, as recognised by the IOM Government, since Government started to promote the Festival. Furthermore, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s arrival figures for 2011 show that over the MGP Festival period 27,128 people were carried. The arrival figures over the equivalent TT period were 33,712.

In addition public statements have been made by various people, implying that the proposed Classic Races for 2013 are an innovation – we would point out that the Manx Motor Cycle Club has been running Classic Races since 1983, although since 2005 Classic entries have reduced by 50%.

Entries for the Classic races fell by 50% after 2005 simply because the ACU Road Race, Drag and Sprint Committee, the majority of whom had vested interests in short circuit racing, decided to introduce the "TT Mountain Curse Licence" which effectively banned all of what the person who used to be the chairman of this wonderful committee and chairman of the ACU in general, and only ever raced a 50cc bike a couple of times donkeys years ago, termed "Holiday Racers" (riders who ride infrequently) stating that "No Holiday Racer will ever race on the Mountain Course again" even though the events that led up to the introduction of this "Licence" did not involve any "Holiday Racers" whatsoever.

ammo (Holiday Racer)

Spot-on Ammo that was the first nail in the classic races coffin, it was one of the main reason that i stopped. I had competed in the Manx from 1978 with a year off to do the TT and then back to tackle the classic racing "as a holiday racer" with full grids! looking back i can honestly they were some of the best (and costly years) of my life so far. In that time I witnessed quite a few changes to the format of the event but none a radical as these. If you put a politician in charge of any good thing they will wreck it, we must challenge them or the Manx as we know it will be lost for ever. As has been said before the mountain course licence was just a cash cow and did very little for safety (if anything).
Lets hope the Club and supporters can make these idiots see some sense and reach some sort of a compromise before its to late!
