When I used to do the MGP regularly in the 70's and 80's we used to phone up the Steam Packet and ask for a "provisional" booking, this booking was then saved for you until you found out whether your entry had been accepted or not, you then had approx a month to pay it. Now if you ring the Steam Packet up and ask for a provisional booking theyve no idea what you mean and the MMCC send you a discount voucher for the sailing but, somehow or other they seem to manage to send it out THE DAY AFTER its expired !!! As the woman at the Steam Packet said " That was very helpful of them, wasnt it?"

Looks like this is a return to the provisional booking of the past.

I wonder what else they'll be resurecting from the past?

Reduced price fuel vouchers after youve done 4 laps of practice ?
A FREE tank of fuel for the race ?
A FREE quickfiller full of fuel for the race?
FREE tickets for a specially organised riders party?


This is what competitors used to get in the past.
