Casey Stoner leaves the door ajar on the possibility of one day making a return to MotoGP despite confirming his move to V8 Supercars for the 2013 season

Casey Stoner has conceded that the door remains open on one day making a return to MotoGP, despite confirming that he will move into four-wheeled racing in 2013.

The two-time champion, who retired from competition at the end of the 2012 season, has now made public his move into V8 Supercar racing for the year ahead – with the 27-year-old having inked a deal to drive a Red Bull-backed Holden Commodore in the V8 Development series.

Stoner elected to quit MotoGP in May last year, revealing that he no longer had the passion for the sport in a press conference held at Le Mans prior to the French round of the campaign.

Confirming his move to V8's in an interview in the Sunday Telegraph, Stoner reiterated the reasons why he had elected to walk away from the motorcycle world, although he refused to rule out one day making a return – even if there is 'no chance' as it stands.

"Injuries weren't any part of why I retired, or that I wanted to do new things," he said. "Family wasn't a part of it either. I just fell out of love with the sport. We had a lack of respect from a lot of people around the sport and I didn't like the direction it was taking.

"We got spat at [by fans], they tried to knock us off scooters going from the motor homes to the pits, everything like that. Unfortunately they didn't like my honesty in the paddock. That was part of it, but more it was the direction of the sport.

"We lost a rider a couple of years ago [Marco Simoncelli] and within a month it was like it never happened. They want to see biff and barge and they don't realise our lives are on the line. We became puppets in that world and it had nothing to do with racing.

"I had no intentions of going back to the sport. But if I see the sport changing dramatically, to the point that it is interesting, there is every chance. But the way I see it going, there is no chance."
