Guy to Retire at the end of the season?
Love him or hate him, you can't ignore him. I hope that this isn't true though!

In an interview with Rick Broadbent (author of 'That Near Death Thing) Guy says he will be retiring: http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/article4346642.ece

I was reading in the Times that he's getting fed up with it all (including racing) and just wants to go back to fixing trucks.

When TAS announced their switch to BMW he was quoted as saying it was the reason he didn't retire in this off-season.

"There is nothing so momentary as a sporting achievement, and nothing so lasting as the memory of it."

Good luck to him, will be sorry to see him go. Love him or hate him the sport will lose a charismatic character.

Not sure about this, It wouldn't surprise me if it was another 'just a truck fitter' quote.

He loves his racing more than he makes out, plus he pretty handy at it too!!

Apparent quote from Guy himself, today.

"There seem to be plenty of folk who are asking if I'm retiring from racing. There are some events that I'm thinking of calling it a day on. There's a lot of things I want to do and it's hard to fit everything in. But I love building and racing bikes and I'll always find some oddball events to have a go at." (GM)

Good luck to the man I say he has given me many hrs of enjoyment watching him and had a laugh with the three or four times I have met him , in the early days he was driven by the ambition to stand on the top step at a senior TT but it just never happened for him , but when you look at all the other things he has managed to do who could blame him for not missing the opportunities that have presented themselves to him which red blooded male would pass up the chance to Fly in a Spitfire ?? not me thats for sure , it had been said a few times last year the rumors were that he was going to call it a day at the end of last year , but with Hector changing to the BMW presented a challenge that he could not resist to have a final stab at achieving his original goal , good luck Guy I say and look forward to seeing you doing more as you put it oddball events

He does not have a good relationship with the TT organisers, so if he does quit, it would not be much of a suprise.
Maybe the Dakar beckons?

He can't quit this year as it's unlikely I can be there - tell him it'll have to be next year!!
.
Everything will be alright in the end. And if it's not alright, it's not yet the end.

Don't think Guy is capable of doing the Dakar. Despite his fantastic ability, I think he agrees that he's not the best off road. Still he managed to win on the Enfield in last Sunday's programme.

I think what you say is true, there does not appear to be a good relationship between him and the organizers, so again this just shows how short sighted they really are. the flip side to this could be if Guy was pushed into a situation or upset enough should he want to he could rubbish the TT and he has a bigger platform than they have to do so. good job he's made of better stuff than them i say.

RE: Guy to Retire at the end of the season?
With the sale of 260,000 copies of his book and the earnings from his TV-Film rights Guy must have earned well over one million last year, so who could blame him if he called it a day with so much to loose each year, plus he may be just biked out and has had enough, at least he knows when to call it a day unlike some who carry on for sakes sake not knowing when to stop with the fear they would be yesterdays heroes, Paul Owen brave enough at least know when to call it a day at the TT fair play to him, we all will miss Guy, one of the best road racers in the world, if in doubt watch this,

I thought with his his 24hr mountain bike racing, he has the stamina and drive to give it a good go.
And I best ASO would welcome him with open arms.
