TRAFFIC WARNING HEYSHAM 29TH MAY
Terrible news for anyone travelling from Heysham on the 29th may.
The Queen is visiting Lancaster and several roads will be closed in the town from early morning, apparently. This will probably lead to severe disruption all around Lancaster.
My advice is to travel up to Carnforth ( a lot of locals do this during rush hour, anyway!) Junction 35, then back down A6 and A5105.
something like the blue route on here (if it works!!) -

Another alternative for bikes and small vehicles is to come off at J34 and take the little bridge into Halton - finding it on a map is much easier than describing the route. This is a route many locals use to avoid the crush on the Greyhound Bridge over the Lune. Don't try to get a twin wheeled Transit type van that way or you will have to perform a very embarrassing reversing manoeuvre back across the bridge Smile

I once got stuck there for nearly an hour once, when a bloke decided to come the other way when I was 2/3 of the way across. then he got out of his car, locked it and walked off!
Had to wait for the police and everything!
Turned out he didn't think it was fair that he had to wait!!!
A bike should be no problem, but I would think you could get through the traffic ok anyway, I was thinking more of race teams/vans/campers and that.

Also take note that the Motorway off sliproads @ Jcn34 are closed from 8pm on the 29th of May to 6am on Monday the 1st of June
due to the Costain works, you can only get on Northbound from the lancaster side and southbound from the caton side.

There ain't half some odd folk about!

There is always the Crook o' lune route too.

I followed a twin wheeled Transit down the lane and he went across the bridge. I stayed at the old station side because I knew he would be coming back. Some of the cars behind me started pipping and then went onto the bridge with unfriendly gestures as they passed me. There was nowhere for them to go when they reversed back and I just sat, shook my head and smiled.

Aye, good shout! It's all going on!
Travelling from the South would be no problem, and from the North folk should come off at Carnforth.

Only another 13 months of mayhem round here 'til they finish the motorway link road!

She should know better at this time of year. On my way up in the Motorhome Fri I'll have to go earlier and soak up more atmosphere.

If you are heading for Heysham, take the coast road through Morecambe and miss Lancaster altogether.

If you leave the M6 at junction 35 as has been suggested, take the A6 through Carnforth and Bolton le Sands. Turn right on the A5105 and follow that road along the coast, through Morecambe. The road becomes the A589 and takes you straight to Heysham Port.

'tis true, the only turn you make is the right ( more like a fork!) onto the A5105, then continue 'til you reach the roundabout (the one that's at the end of the bypass) in Heysham. You also get the fantastic views across the bay!

RE: TRAFFIC WARNING HEYSHAM 29TH MAY
Would anyone following that route please keep up the local tradition and have either a selfie or a group picture taken with the statue of Eric Morecambe.

Feel free to adorne Eric with suitable clothing / artifacts of your choice but bear in mind that cutting through his leg with a hacksaw has already been done and any repeated attempts will not be appreciated.

This tradition has been happily carried out by legions of football fans in the past so I see no reason why the biking community should not continue in the same vein. All we ask is that you leave Eric as you find him.

RE: TRAFFIC WARNING HEYSHAM 29TH MAY
It wasn't a hacksaw -they used a stihl saw to chop down the statue ! unbelievable makes me sad to live with the morons who would do that
