Current Southern 100 Solo Champion Guy Martin has confirmed to Race Organisers that he will not be at this year’s Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Southern 100 International Road Races which commence on Monday evening 11th July.

The four-time Solo Champion contacted Race Secretary on Friday Evening to inform him that he wouldn’t be riding saying he hadn’t fully recovered from his epic cycle ride and that there was insufficient time to prepare the machines for the rigours of the Billown Course.

George, said: ‘Guy was most apologetic and disappointed that he wouldn’t be present, but felt that it wouldn’t be fair on the spectators and fellow racers for him to turn up not race fit.

‘There was also the shortage of time in preparing the machines for the races - which would have been his first outing since the Ulster Grand Prix last year.

‘Guy also wished the club well for a successful and safe Southern 100 next week and said, he planned to be back at Billown next year.’

Whilst the news is not unexpected by the race organisers, as Guy had indicted earlier in the year at the club’s annual dinner that he hoped to defend his coveted title, but it all depended on his fitness after the marathon cycle ride.

We all look forward to Guy’s return in 2017 and wish him well in his endeavours during the remainder of this year.
