RE: lap records through the years
The course that’s used today started to be used in 1911. Named “The Snaefell Mountain Course” or “The Mountain Course” or as I, among others say, ”The TT-Course”. There were no races during the World War 1, 1915 to 1919. From 1920 to 1939 there were races but 1940 to 1945 races were cancelled because of the World War 2. 1946 no TT, just Manx Grand Prix. 1947 the races came back and from that year there has been races all the years except for 2001 because of the foot and mouth disease. If you count this together, the 100th TT-race will take place 2019!

The enclosed link leads to a list that comes from the forum member Luca who stays in Italy. I’ve got his permission to publish it.

Additional to the list Michael Dunlop in 2017 on his second lap in Senior TT lapped in 17.02.009 with a speed of 132.903 m.p.h.

RE: lap records through the years
There are a couple of things to say about the list I've kept (above):

1. The lap speed is calculated from the time of the lap. Some of the older laps were not timed with the same accuracy as now and so there are a small number of discrepancies from the "official" record in the decimal places of some of the older speeds.

2. The list that Silja has linked to has not included some laps that were then subsequently beaten on the same lap by another rider. In 2016 Ian Hutchinson beat McGuinness's 2015 record on lap 1 of the superbike race, starting from position 4. Michael Dunlop beat his lap time by 4 seconds on the same lap, but starting from position 6 meant that Hutchinson held the record for approximately 16 seconds. Similarly in last year's Senior Dean Harrison beat the outright lap record on lap 6, but was himself then beaten by Hickman's 135mph lap less than a minute later.

3. I don't have the raw data for years earlier than 2009 to know if there are any other instances like the two I mentioned in point 2, nor to confirm which lap number the record was set on.

Hi Silja,

I think Luca has just added the information for lap number up to the point where I had the information.

My guess is F=flying lap and P=pit stop.

Hello Silja, hello HammerHead!
Nice to meet you again here...

Yes, correct: you had the informations from 2004...
f=flyng p=pit stop s=start

Cheers
Luca
