The police have confirmed that two riders were seriously injured in separate incidents on the Mountain on Tuesday.

A police statement said:

’We had two separate collisions involving bikes on the mountain yesterday. One at Joeys and one at Black Hut.

’Both riders received serious injuries. The road had to be closed for attendance and subsequent investigations.’

The constabulary also asked for motorists and motorcyclists to take care on the island’s roads.

There have been at least eight road closures so far this TT on the Mountain Road, with seven being as a result of crashes and one to repair damage to the road caused by TT newcomer Daniel Mettem when he crashed on Sunday evening’s practice.

Mr Mettem was airlifted to hospital and has since been released with his injuries described as ’non-serious’.

Police have also warned motorists not to ignore the one way system on the mountain. A spokesman said:

’Once again we just managed to stop a vehicle before it went one way against the Mountain at the Creg.

’If a vehicle got onto the mountain against the flow of traffic it could cause serious injuries/fatalities and as such we will deal with offenders robustly.’

And police have asked motorcyclists not to park their bikes outside Police HQ. A statement said:

’Could we politely ask that riders/drivers don’t park in the police spaces at the front of Police HQ unless you are visiting HQ in which case there are designated parking spaces.’
