Call-out for more marshals ahead of first practice for Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix on Saturday 17 August

As we head towards the opening night of the Festival of Motorcycling on Saturday 17th August, the IOM TT Marshals’ Association (IOMTTMA) is reminding all registered marshals who have not already done so to sign-on and confirm their attendances as soon as possible.

Senior officials and Chief Sector Marshals are keen to finalise their rotas and fill any short falls well in advance of the first practice session this Saturday, which gets underway when roads close at 5pm.

There are still areas around the course where the team would appreciate some more support, especially across the mountain and away from the town centres in and around the west of the island.

Sign-on online here or call into the office to complete a paper copy

The IOMTTMA is very grateful to all those who have volunteered their time to marshal so far, it’s a huge undertaking, with more than 550 marshals needed, for every practice and every race session, before a bike can leave the start line on Glencrutchery Road.

Marshals do not need to commit to every session across the fortnight, however, every session they can commit to really does help support the riders, the teams and the event - whether that’s marshalling the evening practice sessions after work or coming out for race sessions during the weekends or week days, all help is very much appreciated and ensures the event goes ahead smoothly.

Dave Dentith, IOM TT Marshals’ Association Chairman said:

“I’d like to ask every local marshal to come and help over the coming fortnight. We know not everyone can do the whole fortnight, but we’d really appreciate whatever time you can give to help make this brilliant event happen. Come along for a couple of sessions, help out your fellow marshals, and support the riders competing in the Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix.

“We’re also keen to encourage new people to get involved too. Our experienced team is up at the Grandstand ready to sign-on experienced marshals and to register new marshals and to help answer questions any questions they may have.”

Information on marshalling can be found on the TT Marshals' website: iomttmarshals.com and details of the opening hours for the office are available here
