No decision on TT yet but petition calls for event to be cancelled

Island moves to delay phase with coronavirus measures

The Isle of Man is mirroring the UK and moving from "containing" coronavirus to "delaying" it.

That will allow the Manx Government to introduce measures such as social distancing, closing schools and limiting public gatherings.

There is no decision yet on the Island's biggest event - the TT.

Health Minister David Ashford says organisers have time on their side with the event a few months away.

Yesterday, UK Government advisors said the peak of the outbreak of Covid-19 is likely to be at the end of May.

With sports events around the world being either suspended, postponed and cancelled - what about the TT?

People from around the world are due to travel here in late May and early June - Mr Ashford:-

An online petition at change.org is gaining support and calls on the Manx Government to cancel TT 2020 "due to a danger to life risk".

The thing also to consider is if other motorcycle racing activity is called off in the run up to the TT then if the TT goes ahead the riders wouldn't have had adequate time on their bikes ahead of the event and I'd imagine there's a fair few who still need signatures for their licence too.

Now I hear that over 70’s (me) are being told to stay at home in self-isolation for maybe a few months and I already have arrangements made to come over. Not sure how many over 70 riders there are, sure there will be some at the Bilown Classic meet. Happy Days

That's a new angle I hadn't even considered!  No over 70s allowed!!
They need to decide soon, I'm sure it takes a few weeks for the Aussies/Kiwis & anyone else from around the world to ship their bikes over.
And if they did/are allowed to travel would they be allowed back home without quarantine?
O Blimey! I'm thinking of more & more problems as I'm typing!! Confused

I think it`s now looking quite clear that the TT will be cancelled.

According to the  Tynwald website,

Sitting Questions for Tuesday 17th March, and Mr Perkins MHK, is going to ask the Minister for Enterprise, if he will release a statement about the TT, and any contingency plans for the TT ?.

So hopefully we might get some answers about the TT on Tuesday morning fingers crossed!.

Is it easier to manage this type of thing on a small island? By keeping people out possibly?
I would love the TT to go ahead but I cannot see how thousands of people will be allowed to visit while the danger of this virus remains

I'm becoming less confident by the minute that the T.T will go ahead as planned. I do think the powers that be don't need to rush into a decision just yet though. There's still enough time to leave any final decision until mid April I would say. Hopefully by then, we will know a lot more about how to stop the spread of the virus, and they can then make an informed decision one way or another. I'm wondering if Tynwald/Organisers/ACU, are considering sacrificing the F.O.M to hold the T.T in late August-Sep? This would be pretty sh*t for everyone involved in the Manx/Classic, but think it might be something they'll consider. Whatever their plan is, I can't see both being run this year! The missus will tell you that I'm never wrong! Really hope I am this time though! Crossfingers
