Northamptonshire motorcycle and sidecar racer Maria Costello MBE was one of a selected few invited to participate in the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed over the past weekend.

This truly magnificent event is one of the highlights on the calendar. This year it was given the green light as a government approved pandemic pilot event and returned better than ever, providing the stage to celebrate 2020’s planned theme of ‘The Maestros - Motorsport’s Great All-Rounders’, featuring drivers, riders, teams and manufacturers who have shown true greatness by succeeding across a variety of motorsport disciplines.

Maria earned her place at this event after 25 years in motorcycle racing, with the past five also including sidecar racing. She has been attending since 2010 and this was her third time taking her own machinery up the iconic hill climb.

“With no event last year this FOS meant even more to me and I was bursting with pride to be able to reveal my look new sidecar and new team livery in front of the huge crowds and alongside heroes and legends in motorsport,” said Maria.

She took the LCR Kawasaki F2 sidecar that she races with Vicky Cooke to participate in the tribute to 110 years of Mountain Course racing.

“There is nothing like Goodwood, it’s special in so many ways but particularly because the spectators can get so close to our machines and all the action. It’s a feast for the senses.”

Maria couldn’t do it without the support of her sponsors and partners and this year she welcomed onboard local businesses from Northampton.

ColourKraft came onboard in 2019 and played a part in helping Maria achieve history at that year’s Isle of Man TT races. They are experts in paint and finish and did exactly that to give the sidecar its high quality appearance. The Cyber Sign Company, owned by Lee Eagles, provided the decals and EaglesCreative, run by Lee’s wife Lisa, embroidered the team wear provided by long-time sponsor MacTools UK.

Maria enjoyed sharing the experience with her passenger Vicky, who kindly gave up her seat for one of the runs as Maria was joined on her sidecar by TV presenter Gemma Scott.

Vicky said:

"Being her with Maria and going up the hill with some of the most iconic machinery legends in motorsport was an experience I will never forget. Being part of Maria’s team is already good and this was an added privilege.”

Maria is known for providing her supporters and sponsors with great returns on their investment and she has most definitely succeeded by revealing the new livery on such a prestigious platform with exclusive publicity and huge reach.

Maria returned home in time to talk to schoolgirls attending the Silverstone Museum as an ambassador for ‘Girls on Track UK’ and is now gearing up for more two-wheeled testing on the Mark Coverdale Paton SC1 Supertwin and races on two, three and four wheels.
