2002 ISLE OF MAN TT PRACTICES BULLETIN No. 2a
Saturday May 25th - PM

Outright lap record holder David Jefferies set a blistering pace in difficult
conditions on Saturday evening. Aboard the 1000cc four-cylinder Temple
Auto Salvage Suzuki he was over 25 seconds quicker than anyone else. His
average speed was 117.72mph.

The second quickest time of the night was by local rider and 2000 double
Manx Grand Prix winner Chris Dowling, who headed the 600 class at
115.21mph, a highly creditable lap compared to his 104mph averages on his
400 nearly two years ago.

Another local rider, John Barton, fresh from a good ride in the endurance
race at Silverstone, headed the 400 class at 104.64mph. Lap record holder
Iain Duffus was best Production 1000 at 113.10mph; Jason Griffiths from
Ramsey did 110.74 to lead the new Production 600 section; Shaun Brown was
fastest 250 at 106.03mph and Jonathon Vincent quickest 125 at 101.06mph.
The sidecars caught the worst of the weather and the experience of 1997
winner Roy Hanks, with Dave Wells in the chair, saw them top the charts at
83.96mph.

There were a number of incidents - the most serious involving Gary Linham,
from Street, who crashed his 600cc CSC Racing R6 Yamaha at Windy Corner.
He received a hip injury, for which he is being treated in Noble's Hospital
after transfer by AirMed.

Others to encounter problems included Reg Lennon at Braddan; Marc
Bichouard at Bedstead; Philip Callin at the Nook; Warren Turner at Keppel
Gate; Pete Lovell at the Bunglalow and Iain Duffus at Governor's Bridge.
None were injured. Robert Verrier and Ian Brinkley crashed their sidecar
outfit at Lambfell and passenger Brinkley sustained an ankle injury.

The next practice is Monday morning.
