JUNIOR 600, TT250 and SECOND SIDECAR TT RACES
PREVIEW
WEDNESDAY JUNE 5
|
David Jefferies bids for his hat-trick of 2002 TT wins, Rob Fisher/Rick Long
go for a record tenth sidecar victory, and Kiwi Bruce Anstey shoots for his
first ever Island triumph.
Jefferies (TAS Suzuki) has swept all before him as he goes into today's four-lap Junior 600cc event which starts at 10.45am. He has already won the Formula One and 1000cc Production events at record speeds, but will have plenty of opposition in today's Isle of Man Steam Packet-sponsored Junior race.
Fastest in practice was Adrian Archibald (Red Bull Honda) at 120.02mph and he is the lap record holder at 121.15mph from the 2000 race. Jefferies was fourth in practice at 116.72mph but won the 2000 race from Archibald. Separating them in practice were Shaun Harris (Suzuki) and Jim Moodie (V&M Yamaha).
Running concurrently will be the Isle of Man Steam Packet-sponsored TT250, also over four laps. Fastest in practice was Anstey (DTR Yamaha) at 115.87mph, with Ronnie Smith (Manton Honda) second at 112.59mph and Richard Coates (Manton Honda) third at 108.38mph.
The form of James Crumpton (Honda) in the 125cc event, where he finished second to Ian Lougher (Lloyds TSB Honda), suggests he may also be a threat.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By winning the Sidecar A race on Saturday, Fisher/Long (LMS) drew level with the nine victories taken by Siggy Schauzu, Mick Boddice and Dave Saville, and aim to go one better today. They lapped at 110.80mph on Saturday and look set to repeat the dose if they can again overcome Ian Bell/Neil Carpenter (DMR Yamaha) and Gary Horspole/Kevin Leigh (Shelbourne Honda).
Lap record holder Dave Molyneux (Bullock Honda), who has already won seven Sidecar TTs, finished a lowly fourth on Saturday, may pose a challenge
depending on whether passenger Colin Hardman can overcome a severe hand injury sustained in a road bike accident.
The Hilton Hotel and Casino-sponsored Sidecar B race is over three laps and
starts at 1.15pm, to be followed by a two-lap practice session for those riding
in the Production 600cc event and/or the Senior TT on Friday.
The fastest 80 riders from practising qualify to ride in the Senior and heading
the list is Jefferies (TAS Suzuki), followed by John McGuinness (Honda UK),
Adrian Archibald (Red Bull Honda), Jim Moodie (V&M Yamaha), Ronnie Smith
(BSD Suzuki) and Richard Britton (O'Kane Suzuki). They will ride on race
numbers one to six respectively, with No 7 Iain Duffus (V&M Yamaha), No. 8
Ryan Farquhar (McAdoo Yamaha), No. 9 Nigel Davies (Suzuki) and No. 10 Ian
Lougher (TAS Suzuki).
