BRIDEWELL TAKES TO THE SKIES...

Nearly a year after her younger brother Ollie was killed in an accident, Charlotte Bridewell is marking the anniversary by announcing plans to do a charity skydive in aid of Cancer Research.

One of Britain's most promising and popular motorcycle racers, Ollie died during practice for the British Superbike Championship on July 20th at Mallory Park and at his funeral, over £6000 was collected for his favourite charity to which he had a monthly standing order.

Members of the Red Devils Parachute Display Team, themselves regular race-goers who often give displays at race meetings, offered 24 year old Charlotte the opportunity of a tandem sky-dive and she immediately accepted.

As a result, this will take place on Monday 8th September 2008 and already, the Etchilhampton, near Devizes girl is getting excited:

"I said it as a bit of a joke to start off with, then I thought 'why not?', as Ollie was always getting into scrapes and this is something he would have no doubt been up for. At the same time, it's an ideal opportunity to raise money for the local breast cancer charity as my dad's mum died of the disease and that's why we all support this. Part of me is bricking it but at the same time, I can't wait!" said Charlotte.

First to make a donation was Larry 'Scoop' Carter who as well as being Pit Lane Reporter in the British Superbike Championship, was a close friend of Ollie's and also is the Editor of Motorcycle Racer Magazine whereby Ollie did a monthly column for a couple of years prior to his accident:

"Charlotte suggested I do this with her but I maintained my medical and mental condition precluded me!" joked Carter. "But I'm very proud of her for doing this so I'm getting the ball rolling by donating my earnings from the Croft BSB race meeting the week after Charlotte's jump, which is where Ollie took his first major win in 2004, and hopefully friends of Ollie's and the BSB paddock community will also dig deep in memory of a very fine racer and a truly funny guy who is so sadly missed."

Anyone wanting to pledge support for Charlotte can do so by either making a deposit in the following account:

Branch: Lloyds Devizes, SN10
Sort Code: 30-92-63
Account No: 03338968
Name: Devizes Area Committee of Cancer Research UK

Or by sending a cheque payable to 'Devizes Area Committee of Cancer Research UK' to the following address: Wayside Garage, Etchilhampton, Devizes, Wiltshire SN10 3JT.
