New Isle of Man TT Races Advertising Campaign Focuses on Rider Personalities

New TT advice line launched

There are fourteen individual executions featuring riders such as John McGuinness, Cameron Donald, Guy Martin, Bruce Anstey, Gary Johnson, Steve Plater and Tim Reeves as well as local heroes Conor Cummins and Nick Crowe.

Each spread focuses on a single rider and uses a comment that the rider has made about the TT. John McGuinness’ quotation came after last year’s Senior Race

“The TT is so close at the front now - I’ve never pushed so hard as I did today. All my twelve years of experience went into winning that one! The job’s a dream... to match Mike Hailwood’s TT record is incredible, just fantastic. I’m looking forward to coming back next year to see if I can win some more!”

The riders have all been attributed a moniker. McGuinness revels in the name ‘The Master’, Steve Plater has been christened ‘The Dark Horse’ in tribute to his Relentless Supersport victory in only his second year while Cameron Donald is ‘The Wizard’ following his Dainese Superbike victory and acknowledging his Australian roots.

A performance based card game has also been developed ahead of the 2009 TT races. The card game features the best performances from all of the leading riders and cards are won and lost on statistics such as fastest lap, most TT wins and number of appearances on the Mountain Circuit. As well as being able to buy from Motorsport Merchandise outlets, the game will also be available in a special Irish Racer Magazine spread and on-line.

Paul Phillips, TT and Motorsport Manager, Isle of Man Government commented:

“Fans love statistics and TT followers are among the most knowledgeable sports fans in the world. This game is designed to appeal to both bike fans and non race fans alike and will, we believe, also prove really popular with younger TT fans.”

This year fans will also be able to get up to date answers to quires when planning their TT visit via a new single phone number – 01624 686815.

Martyn Quayle, MHK, Minister for Tourism and Leisure, Isle of Man Government commented:

“We’ve listened to feedback from fans about how difficult it is to arrange their TT trips and we believe that having, and promoting, an ‘advice line will help people get to the Isle of Man and boost visitor numbers.”
