The Department of Tourism and Leisure is pleased to announce that a TT campsite is to be run by Douglas Rugby Club.

Douglas RUFC campsite has been registered with the Department and will be called Quarterbridge TT campsite for the duration of the TT period. It will operate from Wednesday June 1 until Sunday June 12, 2005.

Minister for Tourism and Leisure David Cretney said: ‘I am very grateful to Douglas Rugby Club for showing true public spirit and wish them every success in their new venture. It is ideally located between two of the most significant TT landmarks at Quarterbridge and Braddan Bridge, has first class facilities and there are real enthusiasts to run it.

‘This is the first rugby club to offer this kind of service to the Department and we look forward to working with them. I would also like to thank Old Boys, Ramsey, St John’s, Kirk Michael and Union Mills football clubs who have kindly given their services to TT throughout the years in terms of camping facilities, and everyone else who provide additional facilities during the festival.’

The campsite, covering approximately 10 acres, is located 150 metres past the Quarterbridge public house on the TT course. Clubhouse facilities include gents’ toilets, washbasins and showers, TV lounge, a dining area with hot food and drinks available, drying room, public telephone and attendants will be on duty for 24 hours daily. Ladies facilities will be sited at the rear of the club house, consisting of 2 port-a-cabins comprising showers, changing area, toilets and washbasins. There are 250 pitches and the tariff is £5 per person per night.

Martin Higgins, Campsite Manager and member of Douglas Rugby Club, said: ‘Since Noble’s Park has closed, we are delighted to be able to offer accommodation to visitors during TT, and it is fantastic that the campsite is still able to be located in Douglas. All TT fans can be sure of a good Manx welcome from us all at the Rugby Club.’

If any other clubs would like to offer their services to visitors during TT the Department of Tourism and Leisure would be pleased to hear from them.

Minister David Cretney added: ‘This year’s TT is shaping up to be a cracker and we need everyone to work together for the benefit of both the event and the Isle of Man.’
