Lougher’s Island podium

After a week of unpredictable weather on the island, today’s Superstock race took place in near-perfect conditions. Following a good start, Lougher moved comfortably into sixth place and held this position for most of the race.

A rapid pitstop to refuel the Blackhorse Finance Ltd Fireblade enabled the County Down-based rider to make up considerable time on frontrunners Adrian Archibald, Bruce Anstey and Ryan Farqhuer going into the final lap. And when Archibald retired at the Bungalow with fuel problems, Lougher was suddenly in a position to challenge for a place on the podium.

The Team DMRR Honda Racing rider then had a thrilling final lap battle with Ryan Farqhuar – coming out on top by just over a second and taking the runner-up spot to eventual winner Bruce Anstey. Lougher’s race time was an impressive 55:15.73, with an average speed of 122.894mph.

Lougher’s team-mate Richard Britton also had a positive ride in the 113.25-mile Superstock race today. The Eniskillen-based rider crossed the line in eighth place with a best time of 55:57.54 (121.363mph). It is Britton’s 18th top ten TT finish since 1998.

Ian Lougher: ”I’m really happy to be up here on the podium again – it’s a great victory for Blackhorse Finance Ltd, Honda and the team. The victory at the North West 200 aboard the Fireblade gave me a good indication of what the machine was capable of, but this is really fantastic. I can’t believe it!”

Richard Britton: “It’s a good result. I’m a little disappointed to not have been up a little higher on the leader board as we were posting some encouraging times during practice but I’m pleased to be in the top ten.”
