Podium finale for Lougher

The final day of the annual two-week road racing festival kicked off with the ultimate ‘big bike’ showdown. The Senior TT took place over 226.38 miles of public roads in near-perfect conditions.

Following a superb victory in the Junior Supersport TT and a podium finish in the Scottish Life International TT Superstock race earlier this week, 38-year-old Lougher wasted no time in chasing down another good result. The County Down-based rider posted the second fastest time behind John McGuinness at Glen Helen on the first lap. Britton also had a good start and passed safely through the valley in sixth position.

Enniskillen-based Britton had significantly improved his lap time by the Ballaugh Bridge on lap two, propelling him to second position, ahead of his team-mate. The competition remained close between the frontrunners after the first pit stop, with just six seconds separating the Team DMRR Honda Racing duo at the Ramsey hairpin.

Unfortunately, a loose chain on 34-year-old Britton’s Team DMRR Honda Racing Fireblade delayed his getaway during the second pit stop on the fourth lap and he was forced back to fifth position. The Irishman was unable to make up any further places over the remaining two laps and crossed the line with a time of 1:50.21.24 (123.083mph).

At the chequered flag, Lougher secured his place on the second step of the podium with a time of 1:49.15.16 (123.670mph). It is his 23rd rostrum finish of his TT racing career.

Ian Lougher: “I’m really pleased – over the moon in fact! My objective was a podium finish in the Senior TT and I’ve certainly achieved that! The Team DMRR Honda Racing CBR1000RR machine is a fantastic bike – it’s so fast and handles great in all situations. I’d like to thank Honda, Team DMRR Honda Racing, the mechanics, Pirelli and of course the sponsors for putting together such a good package.

“Overall, I think I’ve had a pretty good campaign here on the island. I’ve been really fortunate to be backed by some of the best people in the industry. Thanks to all of them!”

Richard Britton: “It’s been a really frustrating race for me. In fact, it’s been a really frustrating week! I’m pretty sure I could have had another podium finish today – that would have been fantastic. It’s just the luck of the TT I suppose. You never know what it’s going to throw at you. I’m sure I’ll be back next year with a vengeance!”
