This evening’s scheduled third practice session was hit by bad weather. The roads closed promptly at 6.15pm, and an initial delay of half an hour announced. It was hoped a strengthening wind might blow the mist away, but its progress was frustratingly slow. A further delay until 7.15pm failed to deliver the required visibility and the session was called off altogether.

The fastest lap so far is by Southport’s Alan Jackson (750 Kawasaki). He lapped in 19 minutes 15.32mph, an average speed of 117.567mph on his first lap on Monday.

He has also set the fastest lap in the Junior class. Riding a 600cc Honda, he lapped in 19 minutes 36.89 seconds, an average speed of 115.413mph on his second lap of the same session.

In the Newcomers’ class, which was not timed on the opening session, Denis Murphy (600 Yamaha) from Eire is the fastest. He lapped in 21 minutes 49.13 seconds, an average speed of 103.754mph on his second lap on Monday.

The Lightweight class is led by Barry Davidson (Honda) from Ballymena. He lapped in 20 minutes 08.48 seconds, an average speed of 112.396mph on his second lap on Monday.

In the Ultra Lightweight, quickest so far is Paul Corrin (400 Kawasaki) from Onchan. He lapped in 21 minutes 22.92 seconds, an average speed of 105.874mph on his second lap on Monday.

Best in the Classic section is double TT winner Chris Palmer (500 Honda) from Castletown. He lapped in 21 minutes 41.07 seconds, an average speed of 104.397mph on his second lap on Monday.

In the Junior Classic, the best so far is last year’s winner Chris McGahan (350 Honda) from Douglas. He lapped in 22 minutes 22.64 seconds, an average speed of 101.165mph on his second lap on Monday.

Finally, in the Lightweight Classic, heading the way is Jonathon Cutts (250 Suzuki) from Seahouses. He lapped in 23 minutes 46.48 seconds, an average speed of 95.218mph on his second lap on Monday.

With Tuesday’s practice cancelled, the next scheduled session is Wednesday evening at 6.15pm.
