Harris, who had consistently featured in the top three of the timesheets aboard his HM Plant Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, was delighted with the end result despite battling strong winds at the 2.35-mile track.

Team mate Kiyonari, who had been concentrating on set-up on throughout the day, left it to the final moments of the qualifying session before recording a time of 1:15.775s aboard his Michelin-shod machine. Shortly afterwards the session was red-flagged, preventing the Japanese rider from recording a final qualifying time.

Fellow HM Plant rider John McGuinness set his best qualifying result of the season and starts the third round of the Metzeler National Superstock Championship from seventh place.

Karl Harris: “That will do it. It was really windy out the back and it had quite an effect on the handling of the bike. I had a few good practice starts which were also good so, as long as it’s nice and dry tomorrow we should have a strong result.”

Ryuichi Kiyonari: “It is a pity the session was red-flagged but second row start here is not too bad. The circuit is very wide and there are many places to overtake, so I hope for a good race”

John McGuinness: “The bike is good around here and we are definitely moving forward with everything and I feel good on race rubber, which is really important around at Thruxton, as the track is really fierce on tyres. I feel really comfortable on the bike.”

Honda Racing Manager Neil Tuxworth: “It is good to have all three of the HM Plant riders on the front two rows of the grid, this track is nice and wide and there is plenty of room for manoeuvres. I’m confident of a positive result for the three riders tomorrow.”
