TT Entries Oversubscribed Again.
(TT Special Events Unit)
When entries closed for the 2000 Isle of Man TT Races,
the race organisers faced major problems. For the fifth year running the entry
was oversubscribed leaving the Race Management Team with the task of
determining who to accept; and sadly who will be disappointed.
Overall,
entries for the 2000 TT Races are slightly down on the 1999 levels but very
slightly up on levels in 1998. The entries received by class were:-

The Race Management
Team now have the task of whittling these down to around 75 to 80 riders per
class that can be accepted.
Entries are not, at this stage, being
considered in respect of the Senior TT which will again be an invitation race
for the fastest competitors during practice week in the eligible classes.
There are some apparent trends within the overall entry, in particular
a movement towards larger machine classes(Production and Formula 1) at the
expense of the smaller machines. The TT Co-ordinating Committee will be
discussing this trend with the manufacturers and importers, and it will be
raised at the next rider's liaison meeting.
Commenting on the entries,
Chairman of the TT Co-ordinating Committee, the Hon. David Cretney, MHK, said:
"Overall the level of entries are satisfactory and there are a pleasing
number of new foreign riders coming to the TT; including two Argentinians which
we believe is a first. Clearly riders from all over the world continue to want
to pit themselves against the greatest challenge in motorcycling - the Mountain
Course. It is also very pleasing to see 18 newcomers entering the Sidecar class
which bodes very well for the future"
Star names included in the
entry include last year's triple winner and man of the meeting David Jefferies
who is returning on the V & M prepared works Yamahas. Leading the Honda
challenge will be the ever green Joey Dunlop and outright lap record holder Jim
Moodie. They will be ably supported by Iain Duffus and John McGuinness both
previous winners. The V & M Yamaha challenge has, of course, been blighted
by a serious accident to their other rider Ian Simpson at Brands Hatch and it
is understood that V & M are currently negotiating with a replacement
rider.
Individual entrants will be receiving notification by post of
the acceptance or otherwise of their entries and their allocated race numbers.
