Suzuki TT
Village
Motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki
will again organise a TT village this year.
The company set up the facility
for the first time last year and organisers promise it will be even bigger this
year.
Suzuki this year celebrates its
40th year at the TT races and the 80th year since it was founded. A major
feature this year will be a technical support facility where Suzuki riders will
be offered free oil changes comprehensive checks and a free rolling-road
dynamometer facility. Suzuki technicians will also carry out emergency repairs
for Suzuki owners and an AA motorcycle recovery service will operate in the
village.
There will also be a Bushy's
bar and entertainment marquee with music and the 'Suzuki girls'.
The Suzuki British Superbike
team, including Chris Walker and John Crawford, will be present, while further
entertainment will be provided by the Suzuki street magic challenge in a 'crazy
trials arena'.
There will also be a stunt rink
starring European stunt champion Kevin Carmichael.
Nostalgia will play a part with a
display of classic racing Suzukis and guest appearances by Suzuki TT racing
heroes.
Island coordinator for the
village, Ruth Willis, said: 'This year the village is bigger and better with
more local involvement, particularly from companies in the motorcycle industry.
'Last year was a great success. Suzuki and its subsidiaries were very
impressed. They were also delighted with the Island and the TT races. 'It was
the general help from the local people that created such a good atmosphere.'
This year the village will be open
to everyone unlike last year where it was restricted to Suzuki riders and their
guests.
Mrs Willis said: 'The fact that the
village is open to all is something we would really like to get across this
year. The only thing we ask is that children are accompanied by an adult.
The village will also be
supported with other displays and services from Alphadot Security, the AA,
National Tyres Snap-On Sun Tools, Manx TT Radio, the Royal National Lifeboat
Institute, Ogri, County Cuisine and Costa Coffee. It will be located at Noble's
Park next to the TT grandstand and will open from May 31 - June 9 with free
entry.
Suzuki will also sponsor a new
event - the Mad Sunday Ballacaley hill climb. Motorcyclists will attempt to
climb a steep and rough 1,000 feet from Sulby Glen. There will be cash prizes,
with the fastest rider receiving £300 and other categories will include
the best trials bike attempt, the best sub-125cc attempt, the top female rider
and the rider who provides the most entertainment value.
The event will be limited to 100
entrants on a first-come, first-served basis and the entry fee will be
£15 for a minimum of three attempts up the hill. The event is a joint
promotion between the Peveril Motorcycle Club and the Ramsey Motorcycle Club.
It will be £2 for spectators but free for Suzuki owners who show their
Team Suzuki Village registration passes at the gate.
If the TT racing is postponed
from Saturday, June 3 to the Sunday then the event will take place on the
Monday.
