Mar-Train Racing’s Alastair Seeley put down a marker during Supersport qualifying to cement pole position on his British championship Yamaha R6 at the North West 200.

Seeley lapped at 117.16mph to clinch pole ahead of the impressive Michael Rutter on the Smiths Triumph 675, while Lee Johnston completes the front row of the grid on the East Coast/Pirtek Honda.

Row two includes Tyco Suzuki’s William Dunlop, who topped the time sheets on Tuesday, plus Gary Johnson on the second of the Smiths Triumph machines and Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes, who only made his debut at the North West 200 in 2013.

Keith Amor (Honda), Guy Martin on the Tyco Suzuki, John McGuinness on Clive Padgett’s Honda and Bradford’s Dean Harrison (Mar-Train Yamaha) were the top ten.

Michael Dunlop, fastest in the Superstock class, was 12th quickest on his MD Racing Honda CBR600RR.

Carrick man Seeley is chasing an 11th victory at the legendary road race on the north coast on Thursday evening, when the 34-year-old has two bites at the cherry in the Supersport and Superstock classes.

Seeley has won ten times since he claimed his first victory in Portrush in the Superstock class in 2008.
