Disappointment for Purple Helmets

The voice of the Purple Helmets says he’s disappointed the stunt riders won’t be gracing Douglas promenade this year – because there’ll be no roads-closed entertainment.

Derry Kissack says although the troupe will be performing their annual show at Onchan Raceway on Mad Sunday, they won’t be doing their usual act outside Bushy’s Beer Tent.

He says the government has badly underestimated visitor demand for entertainment outside the landmark venue.

And he says it’s not the first time:

So much for making the event better then ..
Ah well the trick here is to have begger all this year, then when Cloud 9 take over the running next year & reinstate the entertainment the government will be patting themselves on the back saying what a brilliant decision they made  Gimmefive . Only the catch will probably be that Cloud 9 will charge everyone extra for anything whatsoever to do with the TT smilie.
that must be the first thing derry has said thats both true and not a total load of s##t
the purple helmets have become a true part of the tt in the modern era
they are what the off race tt is all about having fun and enjoying yourself

Bushy's boss disappointed over TT Prom entertainment

No free roads-closed events outside Beer Tent this year

The head of Bushy’s brewery says he can’t understand the government’s decision not to provide any festival entertainment on Douglas Promenade this year.

Traditionally, stunt shows and other acts perform on closed roads outside the landmark beer tent in the Bottleneck Car Park – but this year there’ll be nothing there.

Martin Brunnschweiler says the last time the government made such an announcement was in 2009, and there was a huge backlash from festivalgoers.

He says he’s disappointed – but hopes it won’t affect his trade:

As long as the wet T-shirt contests continue at Bushy's, I'll get over the absence of TT funfair on the prom.

Also, if Cloud 9 takes over and starts charging people for extras at the TT, I'll start looking for another 'yearly' event to attend elsewhere.
i can remember before the st entertainment
they were good days with the unoffical entertainment on open roads
When the pub was open accross the road from the tent yes some flavoursome ride byes. What year did that end?

Hahahaha - defo .. Streakers, burn outs, doughnuts, a transit van with a hot air balloon burner laid flat throwing huge flames out the back doors, very very unofficial stunts .. all taken in good humour by Dibble as well.
