I was wondering how many of you knew the history behind the Torrens Trophy.
"Torrens" was the pseudonym of Arthur E. Bourne Editor of "The Motor Cycle" from 1928 to 1951.
He was a towering figure in motor cycle journalism of that time, a stickler for correct grammar, and punctuality, but nonetheless a massive enthusiast for all aspects of motor cycling. His favourite machine was an Ariel Square Four.
First presented in 1979 by the RAC, the award appears to have transferred from motor cycle road safety to sporting prowess over recent years.
