I remember quite clearly getting back to the hotel after the race and hearing my Dad being told on the phone that Ralph had died. I cannot remember if Ralph was supported that year by Norton but had had a lot of success on them.

I think my main memory of that year was hearing that Marie Lambert had died up just below Creg ny Baa.I felt that I was probably the last person to speak to her as she went out onto the grid....

I have written a dedication with photo taken by me on the 1961 section of my 2011 website (http://www.bbhmg.eu/hom011.htm) and one to our local rider Chris Horn who also died but in 1951.

I do not want to appear morbid but there were certain times in my TT life when I returned home wondering if I would return the next year....My dad always said to me "Don't get too involved" and yet I have over the years and the pain felt after losing people of the TT with whom I had a great friendship has often been hard to bear. But we go on as a family should and the mind keeps the happy memories.

Let's all remember Mike Hailwood this coming month.....he would have ben nearly my age (71, his birthday was April 2nd)) and it is THIRTY years since he passed on.... I cannot claim to have been in his immediate circle of friends but.........
