Pirates undermine future TT coverage
Published online at 06/09/2011 09:12:17

Online pirates have targeted Duke Video's official review of the 2011 TT.

The DVD has been copied and made available for download on the internet's largest file sharing site.

Duke director Jon Quayle says, although it shows how popular the event is around the world, downloaders getting the DVD for free means there will be less cash to invest in coverage in the future.

Duke pays the Manx government for the rights to cover the event, and he says increased piracy means the company will have less money to support the festival:

I thought North One had the rights

RE: PIRATES UNDERMINE TT COVERAGE - ian huntly - 06-09-2011

What is the definition of "Rights"....
It would be difficult, in fact well-nigh impossible, to trace, confront and sue everybody who, today, pirates DVDs, Cds, photographs, ideas, etc etc etc........

We put Photographs to share with others up on websites, our own sites and on things like facebook and the next minute they are appearing on other sites, without permission or acknowledgements..

Some of us despair......And some who complain are often the worst perpetrators !!

There must be an easy way to protect these DVDs >?

what difference does it make? you can copy the most well protected software easily and quickly - not that i ever would of course.
i just record it off the telly, straight onto dvd. plenty good enough to watch over and over. same with the ugp and all the irish races.

i'd like to see some figures re, the last line of your first post ian. also, if they didn't rip people off for dvd's etc then people wouldn't copy them.

£5 is plenty to charge for a race dvd, which are copied from a master copy thousands at a time. blank dvd about 7p. electricity about 5p.
printing about 5p. plastic gatefold cover, less than 10p. and before anybody has a go at me, yes i know diesel is scandalous, it's time we re-opened the canals :-)
