Charity Quiz Nights - Baylon McCaughey - 16-02-2012

After 34 plus years of competing in my much loved sport of Motor cycling, I have decided to Hang up the Leathers later this year!.
So instead of running the Usual General Knowledge Quiz night for myself, I have decided to run THREE Quiz Nights, with The monies raised to be divided between the MCUI Doctors and the Injured Riders Funds.
The dates and venues are;
(A) Thursday 23rd Feb, Bar- Doe, Oldtown St, Cookstown. Starting 8.30pm sharp
Doc John Hinds and Yvonne Ward to be in attendance .
(B) Fri March 2nd Coach House Bar, Glaslough, Co Monaghan, starting time, 9.00pm
( C) Thurs 8th March, BAR-DOE, 8.30PM sharp, Jan Simms, and hopefully someone from the MCUI Doctors in attendance.
As in the Past, loads of prizes on the night.
I TRUST, that I can rely on your support, on at least One of the three nights.
I AM APPEALING for a Good Turnout, and hope to see lots of RIDERS!
Quiz/Raffle/Small Auction, and some grub at half time!
Usual spot prizes etc
Anyone who has anything that may be of use for the auction, It would be much appreciated, contact me baylon@btinternet.com.

Some General Info of the Supporting Causes;

Injured Riders Welfare Fund
This group was formed back in 2003, with its aim to Provide Support to Riders injured whilst competing in racing.
The general aims of the Group are to ;Provide Financial Support, Practical Help, and very importantly Emotinal Support.
The group consists of Three persons, Yvonne Ward, Shelia Sinton and Jan Simm.
As the group is of Voluntary nature, the girls require ; “Help with Driving, Hospital Visiting and “ A Listening Ear”!
Throughout the race season, Not only do these gallant ladies help out at race events, they also run a few fund raising functions, to bring in some much needed finiancial help, so they can continue their sterling work.
Many Riders and Famlies have benefitted from their help and comfort, However, like everyone else, they are fast running short of funds!.
Last year, they gave out an amazing £12.500!.
So, I hope you understand, just how much it takes to keep the aforementioned going!.
Moving on to the MCUI Medical Team.

The MCUI Medical Team consists of ."a number of dedicated and interest doctors and paramedics". Doc John Hinds and Dr Fred McSorley, along with new recruit Dr Yudash Chetty, who is currently working in Australia for a few years gaining extra trauma experience; and should hopefully be back next year these guys can be seen regularly on their Motor cycles at road race events,
The MCUI Medical Team rely heavily on Fund Raising events, in order to keep themselves equipped for the racing season.
Treating riders at the roadside is both labour intensive and hard on equipment - kit that is designed to be used in a sterile operating theatre has a much shorter lifespan once it's been through a few muddy fields in the pouring rain!

Likewise, many of the lifesaving drugs that the Doctors carry, have to be drawn up in syringes ready for use at a moments notice, could easily end up in the bin at the end of the day. In other words, If the Doctors have a quiet have weekend, there's still significant costs incurred for drugs that cannot be kept over until the next event.

It must also be noticed, that the Running of the medical vans, stocking kitbags, resuscitation equipment which stays on the patient through their hospital journey, specialist drugs usually only found in Intensive Care units, sterile resuscitation kit that can only be used ONCE before being disposed of! over the course of the year , this can add up to an astronomical cost!

Dr John Hinds ;“Fund Raising Events like this help raise the money we need to provide truly world class care to our local riders”

By reading the aforementioned, I Do hope you realise, just how much, both the Injured Riders Welfare Fund and the MCUI Medical Team Really do rely on outside help!
That’s why, this year, I have decided to run Three quiz nights, with the profits being shared between the Two Groups.
So I am asking YOU , to try and make it to ANY of the Three nights, AND Show YOUR Support for both these worthy Causes within our Sport.

Thank You
Regards
Baylon McCaughey
