Department of Economic Development confirms positive response to expressions of interest request for TT Series promoter

The Isle of Man Government Department of Economic Development has confirmed that it has received a positive response to the initial request for 'Expressions of Interest' for an independent promoter to manage and commercialise the Isle of Man TT Races, Classic TT Races and develop an Isle of Man TT Series.  The first stage of the bid process closed on 28th February with thirteen organisations confirming their interest in the role.

Expressions of Interest were received by The Sports Consultancy, who is managing the process on behalf of the Isle of Man Government, from organisations that operate in a number of sectors including specialist motorsport promoters, broadcasters, major event promoters and sponsorship rights management companies.

Additionally, there has been interest from a number of international venues and locations who have declared an interest in hosting a TT series event.  These requests will be passed to the independent promoter should one ultimately be appointed.

The respondents now have until 10th April to complete the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ), after which the Department of Economic Development will evaluate the responses and progress suitable bidders to the preliminary tender stage of the process.

Commenting on the results of the first stage, Matt Wilson, Director at The Sports Consultancy said:

"This is a positive response to the first stage and we have a number of credible candidates interested in the role who have demonstrable track records of expertise in the areas that we are looking for. "

Laurence Skelly, MHK, Minister, Department of Economic Development, commented:

"It was important to the overall success of what we are looking to do that appropriate partners engaged in the first stage of the project and we can now confidently move forward to interrogate their experience and ultimately their ideas as to how we can further grow and build on the potential of the TT Races."

Yeh right, and no doubt the consultants sent their latest invoice in the same envelope as that report.

When will the DED wake up?

Well they were never going to say there was no interest.
Suprised that the number was as high as 13 though.
Time will tell.

10 experienced wedding planners, 2 experienced government officials, and the village idiot. Who will get it?

The wedding planners would be the best out of that bunch.

I'm actually quite intrigued as to what other venues there might be

Maybe the consultants will come back with an advisory to replace DED with a proper "qualfied professional motorsports organisation"

When you have things like this ( allegedly) going on, who knows who will end up running the TT.

Over the years I have made many friends that live on the Rock , and it was a shock to me some of the stories of corruption that they told me , and the fact that is shown in the clip that a person that pays a bribe to a government official can be prosecuted and imprisoned, but the receiver of the bribe is exempt from prosecution ??? And they wonder why they are accused of corruption,

The chief minister says he’s encouraged by interest to take the TT to a global audience.

By this week's deadline, 13 organisations had responded to an invitation to develop and promote a TT World Series - with current stars competing in TT-style road races across the world.

The successful candidate would also work with government to run the 2016 TT and Classic TT.

Allan Bell says although early days, a number of credible candidates emerged:

I have just one main worry about all this sell off job in the published statement of what the candidates had to be capable of doing was not only running the races but providing the marshals , now we struggle to get enough local marshals and a lot of local people that used to marshal that don't now blame the way that in their eyes the people at the top waste money and all sorts of accusations that if I repeated would get me in to trouble , and as I see it will be joined by a lot more people if they think that some none Island billion air is going to be making even more money out of their good will , good will is a very easy thing to loose , and once lost damned hard if not impossible to get back , I just hope and pray this quest for more more more money does not kill off what good will we have left ,

Agree with you Eddie. I really do wonder how much genuine interest there is out there in the real commercial world. My worry is it will lead to a slow death of the worlds greatest races. This could be my last TT as I will go to the Manx instead. Myself & son marshal every year so we understand the manning issue. This to me is major concern for anybody interested in running the TT as manning is always an issue.

This whole idea merely highlights that, with very  few exceptions, the entire IOM Government structure complies wholeheartedly with the maxim "if they had brains they'd be dangerous"

There is a vast difference between showing interest in an opportunity to make money and saying yes there is enough money to be made to make this a worth while investment , time will tell ,

And by that time, all the clowns that were responsible for this fiasco will be retired and sitting on a fat pension with other poor sods trying to put it all back together again on a minimal budjet.

I would like to take this opportunity to say, that the continuing series of derogatory comments aimed at the DED and the possibility of a World Series of TT Races, is exactly what managed to get iomtt.com closed down.

I have no problem with balanced, structured and sensible comments on this. However, I  have already had to delete comments that some of you have made, as they have been very near the knuckle and highly contentious possibly even libelous, and I will have no hesitation in doing that again, if necessary.

Therefore, please be sensible with your comments, otherwise they WILL be deleted.

Malcolm.

Not to mention sooooooooooooo f*%@# tedious.  Every bl00dy thread for pity's sake!

I dread to think what anyone considering heading to the TT for the first time must think if they logged in here.

It's beyond negative - some of you blokes are borderline nihilists.
