The Isle of Man’s Villa Marina will be jumping to greatest hits from The Jam at next year’s TT festival.

Bruce Foxton, a founder member of the legendary group, will be playing those trademark basslines 28th May when his band From The Jam performs at the Douglas venue. The concert is being sponsored by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, which is assisting with travel costs, and by Sure.

The performance is part of From The Jam’s ‘The Public Gets What The Public Wants’ tour, and is bound to include hits like Down In The Tube Station At Midnight, Going Underground, Eton Rifles, Town Called Malice and The Modern World.

Isle of Man promoter Mark Armstrong, of TalisMann Promotions, said:

‘Many people commented at the Paul Weller gigs last year that they would like to have heard more of The Jam material. Jonno Gollow of Jonno Promotions and I did a bit of investigation and found that the original bass player, Bruce Foxton, who also penned and sang the lead on a number of the original hits, had put together “From The Jam” specifically to meet this demand from fans. Jonno and I had coincidentally been looking to work together on a major gig, and this was the obvious choice.

‘Getting the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and Sure on board as sponsors made the idea a no-brainer. We’d like to thank both companies for their ongoing support, helping to ensure the Island can host such great live music events.’

From The Jam, which also features frontman Russell Hastings and drummer Mike Randon, has gained a reputation for recapturing the incendiary live atmosphere which sealed the reputation of The Jam in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Jam exploded onto the punk scene in 1977 with debut single In the City. They became one of the biggest selling bands in British history, with a catalogue that includes 18 UK Top 40 singles, and in 2000 Q magazine placed The Jam’s third album ‘All Mod Cons’ at Number 50 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever.

Alongside hits from The Jam, the concert in Douglas on the opening weekend of the 2016 TT is also expected to include more live favourites and songs from Bruce’s solo career.

Jonno Gollow added:

‘Bike fans should rest assured that Mark Armstrong and I have planned this event with TT fans in mind. We guarantee that From The Jam will not go on stage until after the roads have opened at the end of first practice.

‘We are excited about the show and we really want to make sure as many people as possible can be part of a jumping night out. We look forward to seeing you there!’

Sarah Jarvis, Marketing Manager of Sure, said:

‘I am very pleased to be working with Mark Armstrong once again, as he brings great music and entertainment directly to the Isle of Man. Sure is delighted to sponsor the “From The Jam” concert and we think it will be an awesome night, featuring songs from one of the most respected and influential bands of their era.’

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward added:

‘Once again, local promoters have worked hard to bring what promises to be an exciting live music event to the Isle of Man, and we are delighted to be able to support them.

‘Not only is this an opportunity for locals to enjoy a concert filled with classic songs and great music, but also adds to the entertainment on offer to our visitors during the TT.’
