Lap records - Anonymous - 10-12-2003

Does anyone know the lap record for a car on the TT circuit?

Re: Lap records - Anonymous - 10-12-2003

A few years ago Tony Pond in a rally car challenged someone on this subject but i dont quite remember the full story?

Re: Lap records - Anonymous - 10-12-2003

There ain't no lap record as such, but Tony Pond has had the Road Open car round at over 100mph.

Re: Lap records - Anonymous - 11-12-2003

The Tony Pond lap was (I believe) in a rally car, without the extra weight of a navigator (Tony was an Island resident at that time)
I've been round with David Mylchreest, a most entertaining lap. You turn on the course at St Nininian's and - whack - you hit the bottom of Bray in a few seconds! It was only the seat belt that stopped me joining the radiator motif when he braked for Sulby Bridge.
I hope you can access John Shand's first-hand account of a lap that was on the site a few years ago.

Re: Lap records - Anonymous - 11-12-2003

Tony just missed the 100 mph lap with Geoff Cannell in the passenger seat......This is one of the best videoed laps for appraising the circuit, in my humble opinion. If you have not seen it, you must...

Subsequently the sadly missed Tony Pond did go round at just over the TON..

Re: Lap records - Anonymous - 11-12-2003

I forgot to say in my last posting: The car Tony Ponds was driving was a 'production' Rover 827 Vitesse with slick tyres. He managed a lap at just over 102 mph on wet/damp (in parts) roads.

Re: Lap of The TT Course by John Shand - Anonymous - 11-12-2003

What year was that lap Malcolm?

Re: Lap of The TT Course by John Shand - Anonymous - 11-12-2003

if you read it properly pykey you will note that one of the bikes caught him in "1986", later he mentions it is 8 years since the bike caught him, so chances are it was 1994!
cheers, ade!
ps. hope you are getting better, are you going to the plum pudding?

Re: fao Ade . - Anonymous - 11-12-2003

Re: fao Ade . - Anonymous - 12-12-2003

ade yhall69@ntlworld.com
try that one, but take out the space, apparantley my name with a "y" on the end is a naughty word ;-]i will amend e-mail addy in my profile at the first instance.
ade!

Re: fao Ade . - Anonymous - 12-12-2003

just trying to see if e-mail addy has changed
ade!

Re: fao Ade . - Anonymous - 12-12-2003

Rats! Just too late to catch you. I wouldn't advise putting your email address in the space at the top, as you will now get loads of spam. Spammers have software which picks up those addresses and sends you all that tripe about extensions etc!

Re: fao Ade . - Anonymous - 12-12-2003

hmmm best get rid of it then!
ade! xxx

Re: fao Ade . - Anonymous - 12-12-2003

That is as clear as mud Ade?

Re: fao Ade . - Anonymous - 12-12-2003

only to those who will not see, my son!!!

pykey you asked what year the lap by shandy was done, did you not?
read the bit where they are going over the mountain and are being chased by bikes from there to the creg. when shandy asked if any of the bikes had ever caught him, the driver says "1986"
now go to the next paragraph and shandy goes on about the disgrace of being passed by a bike 8 years earlier, blah blah, blah.
add 8 years onto 1986 and you get 1994, which is when the lap must have been. follow me now?
ade!

Ok Ade if you say so,lol.

Re: Lap of The TT Course by John Shand - Anonymous - 13-12-2003

Malcolm, thanks heaps for this, I have never laughed so much. I can relate to John's story having had a similar experience as a pillion at my first Mad Sunday outing. I was told by my rider that he would stick to the speed limit and silly me thought that would be a leisurely 30 mph the whole way around.
