what does TT stand for??

Re: help - Anonymous - 19-12-2003

It stands for Tourist Trophy. Not Time Trial, Tyre Test or other versions I have heard over the years.... Anybody got any other stupid versions?

It was originally TIT (Tourist International Trophy) but the medial "I" was removed
by the beastophobes in the ACU in 1911 when the Mountain Course was first used.
The analogy between the name of the event and the shape of the mountain was
just too much for the sensibilities of these early 20-century gentlemen.
